RAS BEATS BIOGRAPHY

I want to put you in that zone for 3-4 minutes where you’re not paying attention to anything else, not worried about the usual stresses and concerns,” says producer Ras Beats.

From crate digging to producing, from DJ'ing on the radio to owning a label at Worldwyde Recordings, Ras Beats’ work in hip-hop culture cannot be overstated. With almost two decades worth of work to speak on, including his acclaimed debut album “Control Your Own”, the multi-faceted artist has been solidifying his worldwide appeal since his 2003 debut.

I realised I never got tired of looking for new sounds and creating. I feel the world go quiet when I make music,” Ras Beats says about his work method.

When creating his tracks, he intentionally has a focus on drums that thump in your ear, distinct sounding samples and an overall funky groove making his art sound familiar, but completely original. You would do yourself a disservice boxing in Ras Beats’ sounds, as he always provides a layer or sound that you don’t expect. “I owe a lot of inspiration to 1990's hip-hop, but I'm in no way trying to recreate anything. My goal is to bring you my version of the sound I love,” the seasoned music man says.

The Danish-born, New York-residing music maker's story begins when he was younger, discovering hip-hop with his brother. “If he bought something, I would buy another album so we would have more to listen to,” Ras recalls. The New York upstart also practiced on his brother’s turntables before getting his own and eventually moving on to the sampler.

Ras’ love for digging and his willingness to learn about hip-hop all came to a head in his debut album “Control Your Own”. Having already worked with renowned MC's like Masta Ace, Neek The Exotic, JBiz and others, the debut album doubled as Ras Beats’ coming out party. The plethora of sounds Ras Beats prides himself on shines through here, and with masters of the art like Roc Marciano, O.C., Elzhi, Breeze Brewin and others on mic duty, the album can’t be ignored. Massive airplay and several media appearances is a testament to this.

Ras Beats’ path is guided by a genuine concern for like-minded listeners, rather than clout or fame. “I want to put you in that zone for 3-4 minutes where you’re not paying attention to anything else, not worried about the usual stresses and concerns,” he says.

Ras Beats continues to pump out music keeping his prolific streak going. Since the debut album he has dropped 10 more projects, both under his own name and for other talented artists like Freddie Black, Eloh Kush, J Scienide, Prestigious, and the list goes on and on.
